ABOUT KARIN

karin-mia-2

Dr Karin Nygren has a lifelong love of animals and a passion for their welfare. She graduated from Murdoch University Vet School in 1993 and has worked in small animal practice since then, in Perth and in the United Kingdom. Her main focus is on cats and dogs but she also has a wealth of experience with small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs and also birds, including backyard chickens. While Karin was working in the UK a colleague started using acupuncture in her general practice work. Karin was impressed and inspired by the results that could be gained in instances where conventional treatments were unsuccessful or disappointing. Consequently, Karin completed a course in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2003 and has since incorporated acupuncture alongside her conventional medicine practice. She has subsequently achieved her Certification in Small Animal Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine.

Karin has a particular interest in Myofascial Trigger Point and muscle pain, which is often missed or underestimated in our furry friends. Conventional medicines have limited or no benefit in trigger point pain, whilst acupuncture and massage can produce excellent results.Karin believes in a holistic approach to veterinary medicine, taking the best of Western and complementary therapies in order to provide optimal health solutions for your pet.
Acupuncture can be used on its own or as an adjunctive treatment alongside conventional medicines, working with your referring veterinarian to provide the best outcome for your pet. Outside of work, Karin has a busy family life, living with her husband and their two primary school aged children. They love spending time at the beach, camping and other outdoor pursuits.
